Many of us have been involved with amateur (and sometimes professional) drama for many years, but some have no experience in the field whatsoever yet bring all sorts of talents to the group.
Some help out backstage during the week of production, some may be designing and making costumes and scenery for a couple of months, the actors rehearse twice a week for about four months and the Director and Management Committee work all year to draw everything together.
The Arcadians draw their players from all over Gloucestershire and from Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. Auditions are held in October and rehearsals begin about Easter time, with a more intensive rehearsal period before the performance week.
Auditions are open to all-comers and no roles are pre-cast. And there is always space for those who prefer non-speaking roles but are keen to join in with the excitement and challenge of performance with one of Gloucestershire’s longest-established open-air Shakespeare groups.
